The Weiss Family
John Weiss immigrated to Alberta early in the 20th Century. He married Minnie Semrau and together they settled near Medicine Hat. They had five children; Mabel, Harold, Pearl, Rose and Roy, and as a family, they practiced and encouraged strong faith and strong ties to their community.
Roy Weiss studied hospital administration, and together with his wife, Gloria managed and helped to grow multi faceted seniors’ health care facilities in Medicine Hat. He was still on the board of directors until his death in 2016. Roy was a visionary, he was patient, and thought everything through while keeping the needs of seniors a priority.
Harold Weiss initially studied to be an accountant but felt called into ministry and
then returned to post-secondary education to attain a counseling degree in order to help with the many physical and mental challenges he and his wife Ruth encountered in their career of ministry and care for others. Ruth and Harold loved working together as a team, making hospital and home visits to those in need, sharing music and words of encouragement. Harold felt called to serve God and others with a compassionate and caring heart and after his death in 1996, Ruth continued to serve others until her passing in 2013.
Their legacy of service and love lives on in their family and those they came in contact with. They were aware that faith, fairness, kindness and love of others were truly important and they encouraged others to share these values.
Weiss Clinic is dedicated to them, to their life’s work, and to their memory.
